In closing...what will the next 18 months hold for sound design and the internet?
We will see huge improvements in the technology, together with more ubiquitous broadband access. Many web designers--myself included--anticipate we will have entered the first vestiges of true immersive reality on the net.
Beatnik's founder, Thomas Dolby Robertson, anticipates that the primary means of delivery for music will, in fact, be digital download in 18 months time.
We'll see more and more web design shops adding full-time sound designers to their staff--I just talked with the folks at Second Story, a firm based in Portland, Oregon that's won a bunch of awards for the sites they've done for PBS and Dreamworks Record
The chief designer at Sonicopia, the site that hopes to become known as the epicenter of music on the web, has gone out on a limb and said he expects that in fact within the next two years EVERY web site will have sound.
And I expect that in 18 months--oh, maybe a little less time than that, with any luck, my OWN web site will move from prototype effort to fully sonified vision!!!
Thanks for coming, thanks for listening.....any questions?
